I love what I'm doing in Toronto, but being back here in Israel, if only for 60 hours, reminds me all over again of where I really belong...
When I was a shul rabbi, a Christian woman from Nazareth, PA would come to shul occasionally. She told me that she had once heard voices instructing her to move to Nazareth, and she had done so, but that the voices told her she had moved to the wrong Nazareth.
I'm not in "the wrong place." I'm doing good things, with good people, promoting Torah and helping young men become rabbis and teaching and learning, it's great.
But Israel is just 'it.'
... Not to mention the fact that the temperature is in the 60s, and it's January. Amazing.

Indeed, and I have a funny story with that: I was sitting in a meeting this morning, and someone commented that Israeli rabbis don't get Sabbaticals, as Anglo rabbis do. I replied that there are no sabbatical years for Anglo rabbis; those are "pre-retirement years." I then turned to the person beside me and asked him whether he thought R' Dovid was really going to return to Baltimore - and he told me the news. Mazal tov for him!
I know the feeling. Your comment about temperature made me smile. As a warm weather lad, I have to tell you that today it is going to be 77.
