A lot of heavier material lately; time for a break:
Yes, it appears that Yoda (and Darth Vader) have now recorded voice-overs for TomTom GPS. Which makes me very disappointed that we have a Garmin. Granted that Garmin has its own alternative voices, I just can't see putting Squirrely the Squirrel in the same league as the Jedi and the Sith. The most fun we have with the Garmin is switching it to Mandarin and the like before making deliberate wrong turns, so that our children can learn how to say, "Re-calculating" in new tongues.
And for those needing more substance, or more of a break, this week's Haveil Havalim is here.
(hat-tip: Jendeis)
We just got a Garmin for a trip to Niagara Falls.
ReplyDeleteWhen we went to the British voice we kept on hearing "slit road," which I guess means "exit ramp."
We also downloaded the Kosher GPS database. We thought it was a riot when the British guy said "Young Israel of Boo-fah-lo." But then the American voice said it too. Then I realized that the database misspelled "Buffalo" as "Bufallo." I guess that the synthesized voice had to improvise.
AWESOME! Thanks for a big smile.
ReplyDeleteSoccer Dad-
ReplyDeleteHmmm... didn't know about the Kosher GPS database. We'll have to try that one.
Tzipporah-
You're very welcome!
This is what I was referring to.

I think that koshergps is a British site.
Subscriptions are $18 a year. Though I have no idea how often you really have to update it.
FWIW, I used the Yoda GPS voice for a while--it's not a great impression, and it wears thin after about three miles.
